Annual pension statement
Renteninformation · sent by Deutsche Rentenversicherung
No rush — file it and relax
What this letter is
A yearly, purely informational statement of the state pension you have built up: contributions so far and a projection of your future pension. It is not a bill and needs no action. For internationals it quietly matters for one reason — the contributions are yours, and there are rules about carrying or reclaiming them if you leave Germany.
What to do
- No payment, no deadline — just file it with your important documents.
- Check your details are right (name, insurance number, gaps in your record); errors are far easier to fix early.
- Planning to leave Germany for good? If you paid in for less than five years and move to a country outside the EU (and certain others), you may be able to reclaim your own contributions (Beitragserstattung) — generally only after a waiting period of about two years after leaving. Note it now.
- Staying in the EU? Contribution years in Germany and other EU states are generally added together for pension purposes — keep every statement as proof.
- It is a good annual nudge to keep your Sozialversicherungsnummer and address up to date with them.
